Twilight Rhythms is a celebration of the perfection and beauty of ancient Indian temple dancing. With stunning stylised make up, hypnotic rhythms, the singing of rhythmic passages and storytelling, this is a rare opportunity to watch the magical Annapurna Indian dancers express their passion and deep affinity with this art form.
The evening will also feature a short and vibrant folk dance called Yakshagana, which is performed in the paddy fields of rural India.

recitals and her choreographies in India, U.K. and U.S.A. She
has been an active dancer of Nrityabharati Kathak Dance
Academy in Pune and now she is a senior dancer in the Sujata
Banerjee Dance Company in London.
With her Masters in a self-directed dance-research from the
Surrey University, she has nurtured her talent to study and
write about the art of dance in its depths and diversities of

was a Devangana - a celestial who was on Earth
in Somnath Temple to serve Lord Somnath.
King Bhimdev was in love with her and wanted to
marry her; on the other hand in 1025AD Mahmud of
Ghazni and many other neighbouring kings wanted to
kill King Bhimdev and destroy the Somnath temple.
The theme of the ballet is how Chauladevi inspires the
king to protect the kingdom and the temple.

This is a beginners class for children (6-12 years). It is taught in the Tanjore/Pandanallur style that incorporates grace, poise and strong swift movements. Bharatanatyam's main focus lies in its intricate footwork, hand gestures, facial expressions and the movement of the eyes. It is a beautiful dance that is disciplined yet fun and energetic.
It will be introductory class covering theory/practical, hand gestures, dance steps, rhythm and with the potential of the student learning a small dance item at the end of the term. Appreciation of Carnatic music will be taught as well.
