An evening of new dance works. Premiering the award winner of the Kadam Choreographer Prize, plus Marc Brew and Anwesha Dance Company. The dance shorts, encompassing Indian classical and Western comtemporary have the power to challenge and move.

Marc Brew dancer/choreographer was injured whilst a dancer with Austrailian Ballet. He adapted to dancing from his wheelchair and in 2007 Time Out referred to Marc as the best of London's rising dance talent.

Akademi's Daredevas on tour

Akademi are pioneers in nurturing and developing contemporary South Asian dance in the UK. Their annual Daredevas showcase presents the brightest young talents in this field and promises to be a thoroughly inspirational evening for all dance enthusiasts.

Daredevas 2008-09 features eight short solo works performed by four dancers. Styles range from energetic traditional Bharata Natyam and Kathak to contemporary dance and fusions of Indian and Western traditions.

Southbank Centre Artist in Residence Gauri Sharma Tripathi is one of the nation’s leading Kathak exponents, renowned for her beautiful and unique contemporary take on this South Asian classical dance form.

Circa is a spellbinding new piece with iconographic references to the gods, which is developed from Tripathi's earlier work The Moving Root, The Cusp. Showmi Das's The Endless Voyage

Enchanting dance theatre depicting the lives of the legendary epic heroines Sita (Ramayana) and Draupadi (Mahabharata).

Sita and Draupadi are central characters in two of the greatest works of Indian classical literature, Ramayana and Mahabharata. Despite coming from royal families, both women endured a life of humiliation and suffering.
